South Sudan
South Sudan is a state in Nubia and Sudan (North and West Africa) that has existed since 2011 CE. Its people spoke Nilo-Saharan languages (Kanuri, Songhai, Nubian, Luo, Maasai).
The world's newest country, independent after a 2011 referendum ended decades of war with the north. A civil war from 2013 to 2018 between Kiir and Machar's factions killed some 400,000 people.
