South Ossetia
South Ossetia is a state in Caucasus (Middle East) that has existed since 1992 CE. The timeline colours it by the language of its rulers: Iranian (Median, Persian, Parthian, Scythian, Sogdian, Pashto, Kurdish).
Partially recognised state that Georgia and most countries regard as Georgian territory. It declared independence in May 1992 after the 1991 to 1992 war, and Ossetian and Russian forces gained full de facto control in the 2008 Russo-Georgian War.
