French Madagascar
French Madagascar was a colony in Madagascar and Indian Ocean Islands (Central and Southern Africa) that lasted from 1896 to 1960 CE, about 64 years. Its people spoke Latin and Romance languages (Latin, Italic, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian).
France took Antananarivo in 1895, annexed the island in 1896 and exiled the last queen, Ranavalona III. The uprising of 1947 was crushed with tens of thousands of deaths before independence in 1960.
