Portuguese Mozambique

Portuguese Mozambique was a colony in Zambezi and Zimbabwe Plateau (Central and Southern Africa) that lasted from 1505 to 1975 CE, about 470 years. Its people spoke Latin and Romance languages (Latin, Italic, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian).

Portugal built forts at Sofala in 1505 and Mozambique Island in 1507 and ran the Zambezi valley through prazo estates. Effective control came only in the 1890s, and FRELIMO's war from 1964 won independence in 1975.
