Vinland (L'Anse aux Meadows)
Vinland (L'Anse aux Meadows) was a colony in Canada and the Subarctic (North America) that lasted from c. 1000 to 1020 CE, about 20 years. Its people spoke Germanic languages (Gothic, Frankish, English, German, Dutch, Norse).
Norse camp at the tip of Newfoundland, the only confirmed Viking site in the Americas. Tree rings show wood was cut there in 1021, and the sagas say conflict with locals ended the venture.
