German East Africa
German East Africa was a colony in Swahili Coast and East Africa (Central and Southern Africa) that lasted from 1885 to 1919 CE, about 34 years. Its people spoke Germanic languages (Gothic, Frankish, English, German, Dutch, Norse).
Carl Peters' company treaties led to a German protectorate in 1885 over mainland Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. German forces crushed the Abushiri and Maji Maji revolts, and Lettow-Vorbeck's army held out until November 1918.
