Duchy of Austria
Duchy of Austria was a state in Central Europe (Europe) that lasted from 1156 to 1526 CE, about 370 years. Its people spoke Germanic languages (Gothic, Frankish, English, German, Dutch, Norse).
Raised from a Babenberg march to a duchy in 1156, Austria passed to the Habsburgs in 1278. They used it as a base to win the imperial crown and, by marriage, Bohemia and Hungary.
