Pandya dynasty (second empire)
Pandya dynasty (second empire) was a state in Tamil south and Sri Lanka (South Asia) that lasted from c. 1216 to 1345 CE, about 129 years. Its people spoke Dravidian languages (Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam).
The Pandyas threw off Chola rule and under Jatavarman Sundara Pandyan dominated the south and northern Sri Lanka. Marco Polo visited their pearl coast, and Malik Kafur's raid in 1311 and civil war ended their power.
