Regency of Tunis
Regency of Tunis was a state in Maghreb (North and West Africa) that lasted from 1574 to 1881 CE, about 307 years. Its people spoke Turkic languages (Gokturk, Uyghur, Seljuk, Ottoman, Kazakh, Tatar).
Ottoman province ruled from 1705 by the Husainid beys, who abolished slavery in 1846 and issued the Arab world's first constitution in 1861. Debt led to a French protectorate in 1881.
