Republic of Salé
Republic of Salé was a state in Maghreb (North and West Africa) that lasted from 1627 to 1668 CE, about 41 years. The timeline colours it by the language of its rulers: Arabic (Arabic-speaking states).
Corsair city-state at the mouth of the Bou Regreg, founded by Moriscos from Hornachos in Spain, who expelled the sultan's governor in 1627. It lived on piracy and the Barbary slave trade until Sultan Moulay al-Rashid ended its independence in June 1668.
