Colony of Fiji
Colony of Fiji was a colony in New Guinea and Melanesia (Oceania) that lasted from 1874 to 1970 CE, about 96 years. Its people spoke Germanic languages (Gothic, Frankish, English, German, Dutch, Norse).
Cakobau, crippled by debt, ceded Fiji to Britain in 1874. From 1879 to 1916 Britain brought over 60,000 indentured labourers from India to its sugar plantations, creating the Indo-Fijian community.
