Moriori
Moriori appears on the timeline as a people or culture of New Zealand (Oceania) from c. 1500 to 1835 CE, a span of 335 years. Its people spoke Austronesian languages (Malay, Javanese, Cham, Tagalog, Malagasy, Polynesian, Maori).
Descendants of Polynesian settlers on the Chatham Islands followed a code of peace laid down by the chief Nunuku. Invading Taranaki Māori killed or enslaved most of them from 1835.
