Banten Sultanate
Banten Sultanate was a state in Java and Eastern Indonesia (Southeast Asia) that lasted from 1527 to 1813 CE, about 286 years. Its people spoke Austronesian languages (Malay, Javanese, Cham, Tagalog, Malagasy, Polynesian, Maori).
Founded by Muslim forces from Demak and Cirebon at the western tip of Java, Banten grew on the pepper trade with English, Dutch and Chinese merchants. The Dutch dominated it from 1682, and the British abolished it in 1813.
