Thanjavur Nayak kingdom
Thanjavur Nayak kingdom was a state in Tamil south and Sri Lanka (South Asia) that lasted from c. 1532 to 1673 CE, about 141 years. The timeline colours it by the language of its rulers: Dravidian (Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam).
Established by Sevappa Nayaka around 1532, these Telugu governors under Vijayanagara grew more autonomous after 1565 and patronised Tamil, Telugu and Sanskrit literature. Conflict with the Madurai Nayaks ended in the siege of Thanjavur in 1673.
